Madhuri Dixit Nene came into the Bollywood industry like a storm and ruled for years like a queen. She appeared in around 80 Bollywood movies in a career span of as much as three decades. There was a time in the early 90s when she was the highest-paid actress in Bollywood, and even though it was the golden era of Bollywood as many great actors and actors were emerging at that time, she was just head and shoulders above the rest.
She made her Bollywood debut in 1984 with the Rajshri Productions’ drama Abodh as the lead actress but couldn’t gain much recognition, and even after that didn’t gain much success in the next few years but all that changed in 1988 when she made her breakthrough with the movie Tezaab. Her sensational performance in the movie earned her a nomination for film fare awards. The movie later went on to become the highest-grossing movie that year. She made back to back blockbusters in the next few years like Ram Lakhan (1989), Parinda (1989), Ilaaka (1989), Tridev (1989), Thanedaar (1990), Khalnayak (1993), etc.
In her glorious career, she won as many as six film fare awards for her great performances and was placed in 7 times in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list and on top of all that she was honored with the Padma Sri in 2008, which is the 4th highest civilian honor of the country.
After a successful run in the Bollywood industry, she decided to try her hand on the silver screen is well and appeared on a TV show in 2002. After that, she appeared in dance Reality show Jhalak Dikhla Ja for about four seasons as the judge and also appeared in the show so you think you can dance.
Madhuri Dixit was born in a Marathi Brahmin family on 15th May 1967 in Bombay (now known as Mumbai). She was the youngest child in the family, Shankar, and Snehlta Dixit. She has two elder sisters and one elder brother. Madhuri completed her high school education from Devine child high school in Andheri and decided to pursue a career in microbiology, however in the middle of her college, she decided to drop out of studies and focus on her acting career.
Along with acting Madhuri Dixit also had a great interest in Dance. She developed an interest in Kathak at a very young age of three years and trained for about 8 years and became a professional Kathak dancer.
She told in an interview that it was her dancing achievements that brought her name in the movie industry. And when her name appeared in a newspaper or her performance, it gave her a sense of achievement.
In 1999 she got married to Shriram Madhav Nene. He was a cardiovascular surgeon in LA and had two sons from the marriage. She lived in Denver after her marriage till 2011 when she moved back to Mumbai.
In the early 90s; Madhuri appeared in a lot of films and worked on a lot of projects with Sanjay Dutt. And got romantically involved with him, but her family was not happy with this. Sanjay was already married to another woman and was also allegedly involved in some serious crimes. The relationship didn’t move forward as Sanjay was arrested for possession of illegal weapons.
According to Google, Madhuri Dixit’s net worth is around $35 Million. She charges around 3 to 4 crore INR per movie. And around 1 crore INR per episode for a TV episode.
