Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, also known as the style icon of Bollywood with her acting and more particularly, her fashion sense has become one of the highest-paid actresses of Bollywood. She is a well-known actress who came into limelight with her debut film Saawariya alongside Ranbir Kapoor. 

Sonam Kapoor Career

Before entering into Bollywood as an actress, Sonam Kapoor was the assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his movie Black. It was then that she wanted to become an actor. In 2007, she played a Muslim woman in Saawariya, but the movie was a huge failure at the box office. From 2007 – 2012, she had a fluctuating career giving average to below-average performances in Delhi 6, I Hate Luv Storys, Aisha, Thank You, Mausam, and Players. With the release of Raanjhanaa alongside popular actor Dhanush, 2013 proved to be a turning point in her life.

Her role as Zoya Haider was appreciated. She practiced in Jawaharlal Nehru University theatre groups for her role. In the years 2013 – 2015, she gave some of her excellent performances in the movies that were massive box office hits like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and decent hits like Khoobsurat and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. In 2016, Kapoor gave her breakthrough performance in Neerja, where she played the role of Neerja Bhanot, an air hostess who died while saving the passengers of a hijacked plane.

She won the Filmfare Critics Award For Best Actress for her role. In the same year, she also appeared in a music video called Hymn For The Weekend by Coldplay. In 2018, she was seen in Pad Man with Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte. Since then, she has given some massive hits like Veere Di Wedding, Sanju, and some average performances in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga and The Zoya Factor. 

Personal Life of Sonam

The daughter of famous actor and producer Anil Kapoor and designer Sunita, Sonam Kapoor was born on 9 June 1985, she also has two younger siblings – Harshvardhan Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor. She studied at Arya Vidya Mandir school in Juhu, Mumbai. She is a trained Latin and Kathak dancer. Suffered from PCOD and had weight issues as a teenager. She studied theatre and arts from the United World College of South East Asia.

She also studies political science and economics from the University of East London but later opted for a correspondence program from the University of Mumbai. Sonam married Anand Ahuja, a businessman who is the owner of the first sneaker store in India called Veg Non-Veg. She had a traditional wedding on 8 May 2018, which was attended by almost every big face of Bollywood. 

Sonam Kapoor: Awards And Recognitions 

She won the Best Actress award for Neerja in the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Best Actress (Critics) Award in Filmfare, and Special Mention in National Film Awards. She also appeared in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list from the year 2012 – 2016. In 2015, she was seen in 100 Most Influential Women On Twitter by The Huffington Post. According to the rediff.com list in 2012 and 2013, she was in the list of Bollywood’s Best Dressed Actresses. 

Controversies

Sonam Kapoor is known to have said some bold and controversial statements. On Koffee With Karan, when Karan Johar asked her about the famous writer Shobhaa De, Sonam replied that who the hell is she. She once called Aishwarya Rai “aunty,” apparently when she replaced Sonam as a brand ambassador. She has also commented on various Bollywood actors’ fashion sense, including Deepika Padukone.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja has a net worth of around Rs. 110 crores, i.e., USD 14.5 million. She charges Rs. 2 – 3 crores for each film and also endorses a large number of brands. Her Juhu house is worth Rs. 25 crores and owns cars like the Audi Q7 and BMW 7 Series. The combined net worth of Sonam Kapoor and her husband Anand Ahuja, is around Rs. 3085 crores, i.e., USD 462 million.
