Emoji Meaning 

Ogre emoji is a red, hairy face smiley with large eyes, a giant nose, and a grinning mouth full of fangs and teeth like a vampire. On top of the head, this character has two crimson horns. 

On New Year’s Eve, men in some parts of Japan may dress up as Namahage by wearing oni masks and straw coats. The Ogre emoji, which refers to the Oni Ogre of Japanese mythical folklore, represents the act of ‘warding off evil’ or even punishing youngsters for bad behavior. It is commonly used to refer to figurative monsters and demons.

NOTE: Ogre was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 with the Unicode name “Japanese Ogre” and included in Emoji version 1.0 in 2015.
