WHAT IS SLIME?
Slime is a mixture of both solid and liquid, gooey and sticky substances. It is known as a non-Newtonian fluid. It is a unique combination of polyvinyl alcohol solutions with borate ions in a big container. Even though the intermixing of polymers gives viscosity, it also has a cross-linking agent in the mixture. The bonding is quite strong to get hold of all the polymer strands but it will stay as a combination.
Non-Newtonian fluids have a distinct viscosity based on the amount of force endured by them. When it is put together on the plate, the strands are mixed to make a tangled mesh. Making and playing with them is a nice way of teaching kids about science. Mostly it has an unpleasant odor, a green color, cold and sticky.
In the early Twentieth century, an understanding of the scientific dynamics of polymers was developed. Herman Staudinger was the pioneer in building the foundation of polymers. He proposed a new molecular model for polymers: long, chain-like molecules and cyclic compounds. After some years, his models were confirmed by Mark and Meyer. Later, these techniques were studied, and Staudinger’s models got accepted. At that point, the manufacturing of synthetic polymers began.
It has been in the market for years, mostly these are used by children for playing purposes. It can also be used in rehabilitation to increase dexterity and gripping strength. Some of these toys are just like clay and improved in viscosity with each passing year. With time, Glow-in-the-dark silly putty was introduced in the market. Many new modified slimes are now available for sale.
TYPES OF SLIME
This is available in many different types. But some are more famous than others, here are the ones that are more popular among people. Let’s dive into the detail;
- Glitter Slime: It is the most basic type, this mixture is made up of a combination of glitter.
- Fluffy Slime: It has the same consistency as a marshmallow.
- Borax-Free Slime: Some people are allergic to harsh borax, borax-free is basically for them.
- Glow in the Dark Slime: It shines in the dark, kids specifically love this.
- Cleaning Slime: It has a thick consistency and takes out dirt from the keyboard and other electronic accessories.
- Popping Slime: Styrofoam pellets and other different beads mixed with regular slime.
Slimes recipes most often include a wide range of ingredients. Some of them are listed below;
- White school glue
- Liquid laundry detergent
- Shaving cream
- Food colors
- First, pour ½ cup of the polyvinyl solution into the beaker or a bowl. If you want the slime to be of different color, add any food color to the PVA solution and mix it with a stick.
- Next, add two teaspoons of the Sodium Tetraborate (Borax) into the solution and mix it slowly. You can add different food colors to the mixture to create a unique one.
- Then check the consistency of the solution with the stick to see whether it has been formed or not.
- If you want the slimes to last as long as one month, you can store them in a plastic bag and place them in a cold place.
USAGE / APPLICATION
It can be used for many purposes, it is quite satisfying and relaxing, it can be used to relieve stress. You can also get rid of stress through meditation or meditation music. Apart from relieving stress, they are used mostly as a toy by kids. Kids love to play with them, and it is quite enjoyable for them. kids can play with it and squish it again.
You can also use it to keep out the crud from small spaces. For example, between your keys on your keyboard, places which are generally hard to succeed in, and even use it to cleanse your car between the vents or your steering wheel. It can also be used as a tire sealant, it is installed into the flat tire. This material is sticky and fiber-filled liquid with excess puddling on the inside as well. Now, if the tire gets punctured, the air escapes through the hole, and sealant fibers act as a plug to cover the hole.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
The key to making it last longer is to keep it away from drying out. If you store it in a sealed plastic jar and keep it in the fridge, it will last longer. By storing it in a cold place, it can last as long as one month.
- If you want to make them stretchy and slimy, add any moisturizer to keep their desired consistency.
- For blowing bubbles in it, straw can be used.
- You can change the color into your desired color with a felt tip. Draw any shape and fold them many times, and it will change the color.
- If you get it on your clothes, use a hair conditioner to get rid of sticky slimes.
- If you use too much liquid starch, spread it on the plate and knead it again after 5 minutes. It will regain its normal consistency.
- Borax is mostly ideal for squishy slimes. But for long-lasting, use liquid starch in the solution.
- Don’t forget to wash your hands after making, because borax can irritate your skin.
Many slimes contain dangerous levels of a chemical called boron. The companies issue a warning label to use it with caution as the chemicals can cause burns in children. Apart from that, excessive levels of boron can cause vomiting, cramps, irritation, and fertility. There are many reports that kids start to feel tingling and burning pain after they play with them.

Many ingredients are used to make a perfect one; White school glue, Cornstarch, glitter, liquid laundry detergent, shampoo, food color, borax, and shaving cream.
In 1976, it was first manufactured by retailer Mattel and made from guar gum. Guar gum is a substance that is extracted from guar beans.
Kids can play with it and understand science as well. Apart from playing, it can be stress relieving as well. It can also be used to keep away the dirt from small places.
