In his first interview since being released by the Texas Rangers, pitcher Vicente Padilla said he can&rsquot figure out general manager Jon Daniels and was surprised by the move. The right-hander from Nicaragua was also surprised about being portrayed as a bad teammate by management and some players. “I did not expect this,” Padilla said by phone from Miami. “But really it&rsquos normal for these people to think crazy stuff. I think there&rsquos a chance to be called by another team&ensp… or even the same team. I have no problem with that. I&rsquom a professional ball player who lives off of this.”The Rangers have until today to negotiate with Padilla, release him or send him to the minors, but Daniels said there&rsquos no chance Padilla will return to the team. Daniels said the move stems from Padilla not being a good teammate or role model for young players and from his lack of a positive attitude in the locker room.”We had analyzed this since before the trade deadline of July 31,” Daniels said. “We always expected this to work, but it didn&rsquot.” Padilla said he didn&rsquot have problems with any of his teammates.”He Daniels should tell me whom I have disrespected&ensp… or he should tell me if I ever offended Jon Daniels,” he said. “If they think I&rsquom not a good teammate, they should specify and tell me what I did.”Some players said Padilla kept his distance and had discipline problems.”You have to be a good teammate,” outfielder Marlon Byrd said. “You have to help the younger guys do things right.”And there was an apparent loss of control on the mound. On June 2, Padilla hit the Yankees&rsquo Mark Teixeira with a pitch twice in a game. The next day, he was placed on waivers and made his next start June 7 in a 6-3 victory over the Red Sox.Last week, Padilla hit Oakland&rsquos Kurt Suzuki. A&rsquos pitcher Chad Reineke later retaliated by hitting Rangers third baseman Michael Young.Padilla, who gave up seven hits and six runs, including three home runs in that game, was designated for assignment two days later. In almost four full seasons with the Rangers, Padilla was 43-34 with a 4.90 ERA in 103 starts. This season, he was 8-6 with a 4.92 ERA in 18 starts.”I have pitched well most of the season,” Padilla said. “The last time&ensp… well, anybody can lose a game. I don&rsquot know what triggered the decision. Maybe they don&rsquot want to continue paying me my contract. In reality, I don&rsquot understand what happened.”The Rangers owe Padilla 3 million this year and a 12 million option for 2010.&mdash Carlos A. Nava Kinsler heads for FriscoIan Kinsler worked out before Tuesday&rsquos game against the Indians but left before the first pitch.Kinsler flew back to Texas and will begin a two-game rehab stint with Double-A Frisco in Tulsa tonight. He hopes to be at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Friday for the series opener against Boston. He&rsquos been on the disabled list since Aug. 2 with a strained left hamstring. He ran at full strength Tuesday.”I still feel it, but it&rsquos not anything to worry about,” Kinsler said. “It&rsquos something I&rsquove got to work with right now. It will go away once I get my feet back under me.”Tonight&rsquos Frisco game will also mark the Double-A debut of left-hander Martin Perez, who was promoted from Class A Hickory.Cruz sits againRangers manager Ron Washington said Nelson Cruz was available to pinch hit, but the outfielder is not running at 100 percent because of his sprained left ankle. Cruz hasn&rsquot played since Aug. 3. “He&rsquos still not quite there yet,” Washington said. “The ankle&rsquos looking much, much better. He amped it up a little today.”Signings updateThe Rangers continue to negotiate with their top two picks &mdash pitchers Matt Purke and Tanner Scheppers &mdash in advance of Monday&rsquos deadline to sign draft picks. The Rangers have extra time to sign Scheppers, who played independent ball.”We&rsquore still working through the process,” Jon Daniels wrote in an e-mail. “Given the lack of a deadline with Tanner, it&rsquos fair to say we&rsquore focused on those guys that have the Aug. 17 deadline looming, but we&rsquod still like to sign him if possible.”

"I did not expect this," Padilla said, "but really it’s normal for these people to think crazy stuff. "I think there’s a chance to be called by another team … or even the same team," he said from Miami during a telephone interview. "I have no problem with that. I’m a professional ball player who lives off of this." The Rangers have until today to negotiate with Padilla, release him or send him to the minors. However, Daniels said there’s no chance Padilla will return to the Rangers. He doesn’t fit in with the team. The move stems from Padilla not being a good teammate or role model for young players and from his lack of a positive attitude in the locker room. "We had analyzed this since before the trade deadline" of July 31, Daniels said. "We always expected this to work, but it didn’t." Padilla said he didn’t have problems with any of his teammates. On June 2, Padilla hit the Yankees’ Mark Teixeira twice in a game. The next day, he was placed on waivers. Daniels hoped that would be a wake-up call. Padilla made his next start, on June 7, beating the Red Sox, 6-3. Last Wednesday, Padilla hit Kurt Suzuki of the Oakland A’s, whose pitcher later plunked Rangers third baseman Michael Young. Padilla gave up three homers, six runs and seven hits in that game. The team designated him for assignment two days later. In almost four full seasons with the Rangers, Padilla racked up a 43-34 record and a 4.90 ERA in 103 starts. This season, he was 8-6 with a 4.92 ERA in 18 starts. In reality, I don’t understand what happened." The Rangers owe Padilla 3 million this year and a 12 million option for 2010. Padilla said he leaves with very positive memories of the fans. "They treated me very well," he said. "I never recall being booed and that leaves me very happy."
