The Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement at the University of Minnesota CAREI will be giving a student survey to Forest Lake Senior High School Seniors in November and May. The student survey is one component of the evaluation of the Ramp-Up to Readiness Program in which your student is participating. CAREI is the independent evaluator for the Ramp-Up to Readiness program. The Ramp-Up to Readiness program and the evaluation component is funded by the University of Minnesotas College Readiness Consortium and The Bush Foundation. The purpose of CAREIs research is to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of the Ramp-Up to Readiness program. The goal of the student survey is to collect student perceptions concerning post-secondary readiness. Student participation is voluntary. Student decisions whether or not to participate will not affect their relationship with this school or with the University of Minnesota in any way. If students agree to participate, their participation will be completely confidential. CAREI will not release student names or any identifying information in their evaluation reports. The University of Minnesota has very strict rules for confidentiality of data as well as rules for storage of data with sensitive information. The results of the survey will be used only to refine Ramp-Up to Readiness goals and components of the program.

The grounds include a large front lawn used for field hockey, lacrosse, and ultimate and a full-sized track and football field with 2 sets of bleachers. Because the school is situated very close to residential areas, the City of Lake Forest does not permit the school’s football team to use floodlights, effectively prohibiting night games however, in 2006, the city did allow the school to rent lights for a one-time night game. A 2007 referendum relocated the schools football facilities to the schools west campus, where the use of floodlights is not prohibited. The referendum passed by an overwhelming 2/3 majority, and renovations are set to take place in two phases. The first phase, to be completed by the 2007/2008 school year includes the addition of a music wing, and renovation of the west campus including construction of a Varsity field. The second phase, to be completed by August 2008, will include academic renovations at the east campus with a brand new dining room and library, and construction of administrative offices at the west campus. Prior to this, a first referendum was passed on November 7, 2006 unanimously by the Lake Forest High School Board of Education. This referendum was later passed on to the rest of the community and appropriated 54 million to be paid back over the next 20 years.
